70s kids series

Trying to place a 70s tv series in which most of the population turned against modern things. It started with the girl who was the central figure watching TV with her family. Her dad smashing the telly was the first step as everyone turned against electricity, cars, trains etc. Many unaffected people jumped in boats to France but those left turned strange - something to do with the resurgence of an ancient God.

Any help would be great!
