Childrens series secret tunnels/masks??

Does anyone remember a kids TV show (think it was early 80's) where there was a secret tunnel and some of the characters all had either paper plates as faces or wore masks.

They never spoke and it was quite scary for a kid (well, me anyway) ;o)

I do. There was a scene when all the people with paper masks were clapping. It was so sinister & has stuck in my head ever since.

I remember the secret tunnel, and it was entered by a big stone door in a large garden. The creepy people with masks got stuck down there.

That sounds very much like "The Enchanted Castle" (BBC 1979). One thing I will mention though is that the people clapping where dummies made by the children to stand in for an audience as they were putting on a play. One of the children wished that the audience was real........ cue one of the most terrifying moments in children's tv history. lol

The sad news is that the BBC have absolutely no plans to release it on DVD.... the good news is that there is a growing campaign to have them do so and the tapes do still exist as it were later shown in Australia.

They were called Ugly Wugglies, there's a Facebook group trying to gt it released on Dvd.

I've never seen this (a bit before my time), however I have came across several post about this show and how desperate people have been for a DVD release. I've heard this is now being released in Oz but not the UK......
How come?
