I once met Bob Holness when he turned on the Christmas lights in Ashford, Kent. We had a little chat about a college in Maidstone where he'd been, and I was thinking of applying to at the time (late '80s). He was a genuinely nice bloke.

On visits to London, I often (perhaps unsurprisingly) see celebs. On an tube train heading to Cockfosters, the actor Michael Knowles (who seemed to specialise in playing upper class monocled gents in Croft/Perry sitcoms) sat opposite me. I once got on a tube train at Camden to find Trevor Nelson sitting nearby - he gave me a quick nod. I saw the tall actor Clive Mantle near Oxford Circus station, and within a few yards Noel Fielding outside HMV on Oxford Street. I've also seen Jon Culshaw shopping in HMV, and Hugh Dennis wandering round the WHSmiths in Oxford Street. I saw Ian Hislop buying a train ticket at one of the mainline stations.

I could also add that I once spent a day at the TVS studio in Maidstone (in 1988), where I was watching 'Number 73' (in it's new Wild West Theme Park location) being filmed. Whilst in the reception area watching 'Neighbours' halfway through the day - with practically all the rest of the staff at the studio - Doctor & The Medics walked in and stood next to me and watched the TV with us all.
At the Earl's Court Motor Show in around 1993, Quentin Willson tested me on my car knowledge in a small knock-out quiz on the 'Top Gear' stand. At the end, he asked the crowd to give me a big round of applause, stating that I 'really knew my stuff'.

Im always gutted that I never seem to see any famous people when I go to London, but then again the place is so busy that I'd probably walk straight past them, or else I just wouldn't recognise some famous people. I'm out of the loop a bit especially with modern, new celebs.

            Hi all,

I was in a local kids' dance troupe when I was about 11, and met Rolf Harris who was on the same bill at Caesar's Palace in Dunstable, sometime around 1977. The thing I remember is that he was just as easy going and friendly as he comes across on TV, and despite there being a good few dozen of us, he happily found the time to chat to us all backstage and sign autograph books, each autograph with a little cartoon drawing, of course ("Can you tell what it is yet?").
