Convict turned lawyer

I remember some good few years ago about a convict who learn the law whilst in prison and came out to be a successful lawyer I thought his name may have started with a K but i stand corrected if this isnt so.

This is just one of those things that came in to my head as it does and then starts a family discussion...... oh how i wish i could remember his name...

Dark hair guy if that helps.

Can any one remember this.

There was a series in 1978 called "Kaz" - a car thief turns lawyer ? An American series though.......
