Does anyone remember S.W.A.L.K. it starred a very young Nicola Cowper.
i believe she married an armed robber.

Story in 6 episodes of an impressionable 13-year-old girl who comes to realise that life is not like that depicted in teenage magazines. Tx on Channel 4 in 1983; rpt in 1985.

also anyone watch an early 80's ITV series for teenagers called A bunch of fives

I think that I remember this.

Her real life sister, Gerry Cowper, played her older sister who became a teenage mum.

Gerry Cowper was/is in Eastenders as Rosie Miller.

Don't know if she was the redhead though.

i havent seen nicola on TV since 1981
looks like everyone was in eastenders!
eastenders used to be screened here in australia in the mid 90s.

btw the redhead was in A bunch of fives

Every time I saw her or Gerry Cowper on TV, my brain said "What was the program that SHE was in? You know it, but I'm not going to tell you.."

I LOVED S.W.A.L.K. It was brilliant! Nicola Cowper was great in it.

actually i can only remember one episode when she went on a date.
i think i have an issue of Girl magazine with Nicola and her sister showing off some fashion. Don't ask why i have Girl magazine.
if i can find it i will post a scan of it. must be under my 2000AD comics

I wondered if anyone else remembered this series, pleased I'm not the only one then. I used to love it. I only remember the young lad in it, because I used to fancy him lol. I think his name in the programme was Gary.

yes i remember him.
i remember one episode where she went on a date with him. of course it didn't live up to her expectations.

I used to watch S.W.A.L.K and at the time (I was only 17 or 18) really fancied the lead character Amanda. I've always wondered what she's been up to since then.

i have all six episode of this on video logged away, it was one of those youth programmes that channel four and bbc2 were trying to break at the time, the interest for me was i use to see it being filmed in the isleworth and twickenham area at the time, the area where nicola cowper lived and still does. all i really remember now was that she was always let down, the guy she was after was in the end a letdown and she always use to tell her secrets to her sisters baby,and her sister always was telling her not to follow her footsteps, i should really dig it out and watch it again!
