3 witches and an apple

Does anybody here remember a 70s children's drama about kids searching for the apple Adam and Eve ate? They were pursued by 2 or 3 rather scary women who I think were witches. They had a weird way of running, arms outstretched and closely intertwined.

If that makes any sense I'd love to know. It's been bugging me for years!
