80s kids show - man, machine and big furry animal

I vaguely remember an 80s kids show which was shown on a Sunday afternoon on Channel 4.

It had a middle aged man, a big furry animal (person dressed up as) and a machine which could create all sorts of things.

It was set in a shop. NB the machine is NOT Bertha.

Does anyone remember what it was called?
