pandora's box

does anyone remember a tv show/film that was on at christmas time in the early 80's. i was very young then, but have vague memories of watching something where the opening sequence had a black box and the story was about a girl who might have entered another world through this box. not sure. it was quite strange but stuck in my memory so am intrigued to track it down. any ideas?
