  • On Giant's Shoulders

Everyone who saw this play about Terry Wiles, a thalidomide victim, was so moved by it and totally charmed by him. Terry playing himself, Bryan Pringle as his adoptive dad and Judi Dench as his adoptive mum.

I'd love to see it again but it doesn't seem to be available on dvd. I remember bits of it vividly, Terry telling his mum he'd help her with the washing up when his arms grew, something a nurse had told him, and her telling him matter of factly that they were never going to grow, how dedicated his dad was to inventing a 'Supercar' for him to give him some independence, how reluctant his mother was to consider adopting him initially.

According to Wiki there was a follow up documentary Fight For Love on Channel 4 in 1997. I missed that.

Happy to hear things turned out well for him http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Terry_Wiles
