Drama series from the eighties

Does anybody remember what the drama series from the eighties was that had Joanne Whalley playing a girl from the sixties and she had a doomed relationship with a ginger guy who was in London's Burning? I seem to remember Diana Weston from the upper hand having a smaller part in it.
