Mystery/Suspense/Horror British TV Series from 70s/80s?

Hello. I don't have much to go by, but I hope someone can help me find this.

I grew up in Ecuador and used to watch a British TV series that, translated, was called "Mystery" ("Misterio"). I'm not sure what the original English name was. It was a murder/mystery/thriller/horror-type of show. The stories often involved basements, the cupboard under the stairs, and other eerie places and situations. It was very well made, and I remember it kept us on the edge of our seats. It was not a detective-type of show, but closer in style to The Twilight Zone with lots of suspense. I remember the music in the intro, it was an eerie violin sound with just a few notes. I have posted the sound as I remember it on YouTube, in case it will help someone remember and give me a clue.

It might have been Night Gallery which was a U.S show that was shown in the UK in the very early 70's. Heres a youtube link to the intro, sounds a bit similar.

The Hammer House of Horror series Frame just posted about,does sound like the music in your original youtube link,Cheluto2.
There was another series with a similar type of music,which was called: Thriller.See if this may be the series.

I noticed that a lot of british tv mystery serieses,always blended mystery with horror a lot,and this series: Thriller,was one of those.

Yes, thanks for all the replies.
It was Thriller, indeed!! I also ended up finding some teasers on YouTube that included that beginning. I had forgotten about the wide-angle lens images, which, along with the music were pretty eerie. I want to buy the Box Set that I found out is available, but need to find a Region-free PAL DVD player first, since I'm in the U.S. and the box set is not available here, only the first season is.

Mystery solved!!

Another 70s series you may like is "The frighteners" its on youtube, largely forgotten now, but some good stories.
