Arguably the comedy drama of the 80's was Just Good Friends, starring Paul Nicholas and Jan Francis. DVDs of the three series of this show, which ran from 1983 to 1986, plus the 1984 Christmas Special, have been unavailable for a year or so now. So it's good news indeed that all this is being put right with a new box set of DVDs from video distributor Eureka, which this year bought the rights to Just Good Friends. It will go on sale as of 25th October. The prolonged absence of DVDs of this show has been entirely to do with copyright clearance problems on the music used, particularly a Rolling Stones track which plays in the background of the party scene in the Christmas Special. Eureka has got around this problem by removing the sound track and inserting sub titles - which may not be a very acceptable or elegant solution to the problem for many people, but, on balance, I suppose it's better than the show as a whole continuing to be unavailable.
