  • Norris McWhirter Chronicles

Apparently this Christmas on Sky 1 there will be a programme called the Norris McWhirter Chronicles. I have been unable to find out what day or time it is on.

Norris McWhirter was co-editor of the Guinness Book of Records and appeared on Record Breakers with Roy Castle. His brother Ross was murdered by the IRA in 1975. The film is an acccount of Norris' visit to David Baddiel's school in 1978:
The Norris McWhirter Chronicles, which is a faithful retelling of a true story, takes us to 1978. Record Breakers is at the height of its popularity and the latest guest speaker at teenage David Baddiel’s school is none other than editor of the Guinness Book of Records, Norris Mcwhirter. This is a man famed for being right. The voice of authority on Record Breakers, there is no fact he can’t recall. But is this respected man of intellect always correct? Young David’s future knowledge and further encounters of Norris suggest otherwise...
I found this out by accident because I follow some political web sites. Unfortunately, Baddiel has been slandering Norris because of his involvement in politics so this programme may be a hatchet job. Anybody who is interested can find more details at the Cranmer blog. The organisation he founded, the Freedom Association, is also lodging a complaint.

I don't think as children, any of us cared what their political views were, they were just really clever and apparently kindly men, who you wished were your teachers at school instead of some of the dead beats we had.

I don't like politics very much myself but I started taking an interest about 2006 because I was priced out of the housing market by high house prices, then the banks collapsed in 2008 of course and nothing has improved since.

I also saw a documentary called Tory! Tory! Tory! The first ten minutes of this documentary explains why the McWhirters were involved. If you hate the Conservatives or Margaret Thatcher then my best advice is don't watch this because it will make your blood boil, but if you keep an open mind this is really interesting.
