When I was a child my mum used to buy these activity books for me. You had to buy this big thick grey pen type thing seperately in order to use these books.
Each book would have a series of questions inside such as 'How many red balls can you see', and you would put this pen nib (not a real pen with ink in) on the square next to the correct answer, and the pen would tell you if you were correct.
At the start of each book, you had to press the 'pen' nib on the first page to register on the pen what book it was.
You could buy them from places like tescos.
