I never read Watchmen either. As far as comics go, I never actually grew up and progressed onto the 'mature' (and I use the term loosely) titles. I can't stand Frank Miller stuff or any of the grim, more realistic (and I use the term very loosely) stuff. Current superhero titles hold absolutely no appeal for me, (every year I try again to get into some) so my Marvel reading era tends to stop around '83.
Fans always gripe on about how comics can be for adults, too but nowadays it seems like no-one makes comics for kids any more. Or at least like the Marvel I used to read which weren't simplified, dumbed down for kiddies. They were just great stories.
Sorry, turning into a rant now.
Edit - Oh, and if you grew up with the b/w Marvel UK comics there's a book out soon(ish) chronicling the whole history of Marvel in the United Kingdom.
