In the early '80s I was an avid 'Look-In' reader - I remember the 'Dangermouse' and 'The Fall Guy' strips.

I dabbled briefly with the short-lived 'Oink' and 'School Fun' in the mid-'80s, but I found a couple of old '70s 'Tiger' comics, and I had already got a few of the annuals, so I investigated further to find it had just merged with 'Eagle' - then, I started getting 'Eagle & Tiger'. The strips I remember were 'The Computer Warrior', 'The 13th Floor' (with the computer Max), Dan Dare (natch!), Billy's Boots (a long-running 'Tiger' strip), and one about an organisation run by some ex-S.A.S. men (although I can't recall the name of it now).

There's some comics called Fun and Games on ebay at the moment that are Marvel comics. They don't seem to match your description though.

Does anyone remember a comic called Fun and Games, from the early 70s?

It was for very young children, and the stories were all about the characters used in the television advertising of food products aimed at children: Jeremy Bear of Sugar Puffs, the Milky Bar Kid, Captain Birdseye, Robertson's Jam's Golly, etc. In other words, it was just a lot of glorified adverts. Cheeky!

I wonder if that would be allowed today?

The bash street kids was a spin off from the Beano, but did anybody else ever get the spin off from the bash street kids "Plug" comic. I used to love this and the strips I seem to remember were quite weird.

His strip ended up in Warlord after Bullet was cancelled. IIRC, Fireball was a nephew of Lord Peter Flint, who in the war had been Codename: Warlord.

I remember being poorly in bed, and my Dad came home in the lunch hour and brought me a comic called TOBY - It had a little dog on the front be about 1973.

Wasn't Fireball related to Warlord comic in some way? I remember by older brother getting Warlord and I got Bullet each week from when it was released.

The pendant WAS huge .... black plastic neck band that dug in to my neck if I ever wore the pendant under a t-shirt. The wallet was cool though. I seem to remember that it had challenges which you had to complete in order to become more and more like Fireball. I can remember one challenge being to run a certain distance in x seconds. I had no clue how far that was so used my school ruler to measure the distance. Can't remember if I did every challenge or just cheated. At the end though, I couldn't find anybody else who read the same comic so I stopped getting it and swapped to Shoot and Scoop (footie mags).

Did buy a copy of Bullet from eBay a few years ago ... love that cheap paper that was used.

I liked that Jocks & The Geordies, though it was confusing that while the Jocks used plenty of Scots expressions (Jings!) the Geordies spoke fairly plain English.

The Jocks seemed to come out on top more, but I remember once or twice neither gang getting the upper hand by the end of the page, normally both getting in trouble.

I only remember getting the Dandy on a regular basis. My favourite character was desperate Dan. I joined the Dandy club and got lots of cow pie badges and stickers. I also remember Corky the Cat and the Jocks and the Geordies. I am actually a Geordie but back then I didn't know it so the never ending battle between the J's and the G's was lost on me. I always wanted the Jocks to win! I occasionally got Disney comics but only on special occasions because they were expensive.

Faceache, from Buster (and Monster Fun). Drawn by the legendary Ken Reid, who also created Frankie Stein.

My favourite comic when I was a kid was Bullet. It had this cheesy main character called Fireball who looked a bit like Magnum, big hair & tash and flares and always getting into some major death defying predicament each week. It was a spin off from the more established and popular comic Warlord.

Bullet wasn't a spin-off from Warlord, but it did merge with Warlord after it was canceled.

I bought a fair few, from the DC comics Spider-man ones through New Eagle, Scream, Monster Fun, Krazy, Cheeky, etc.

Spider-Man is a Marvel character; Superman is DC.

Incidentally, I saw a copy of Krazy over here in an antique shop of all places the other day. It was dated Feb 5th 1977 but i'm pretty sure the cover was spelt "Crazy" and not "Krazy" as I had remembered, might be an Aussie thing.

Nope, it was indeed Krazy, forerunner of Cheeky Weekly. There is a feature on Cheeky and his creator, Frank McDiarmid, in the latest issue of Crikey! magazine...

2000AD Gifts

How cool are those 2000AD gifts! I'd have loved them as a kid!

I used to get Buster and Whoopee, then the new Eagle when it was relaunched. The Holiday Specials were always a real part of your School holidays - great!
