Knitted animals

Now this will be a hard one,if not impossibe but if anyone can find it im sure it will be on here.Now i had a book as a small child so it was definatley in the 70's.All i can remember is it had knitted animals but with backgrounds made of clay(i think).Now i know its very vague but i can see it clearly in my mind,just a shame i cant describe it with more detail.Cant remeber anything else like story etc.

Neither the flumps or clangers. From what i remember the scene was in a forest with caves as homes in the background.May be wrong though as i say its a very faint memory.

Thanks Kiop,im 90% sure thats it.I dont remember the tv series but the pics look like what i remember from the book.
