1970s Football Story

There was a book I read many times in the back end of the 70s and early 80s about a childrens football team that was set up. All I can remember is that they got a pitch on what i think was a farmers field and across the middle of the pitch was a ditch.

Very vague I know but does anyone have any ideas?

Can't help but I've played football on that field in Grange Moor, Huddersfield, a ditch and plenty of cow pats.

It sounds like one of Michael Hardcastle's books.

I remember reading a few of Michael Hardcastle's books when I was young, most of which seemed to be about the plight of young sport paticipants.
