Swatch Watches

Swatch watches were massive at my school in the 80's, Everyone was wearing one except me They came in wacky colours and patterns, usually a right mix match. I guess they seemed like a Rolex for kids
Just stumbled across one on Ebay, how cheap and nasty they look now, yet back then they were well out of my price range £20-£30 if I remember rightly, Now I'd expect to find one in my Christmas Cracker!!

God! I had to have one when they hit the market
They sell for silly prices now to collectors (collectors of **** I assume).
Think I got mine on my 18th birthday.

looking at that picture I cant believe the fuss we made over them, I think it was a case of the brighter the better at our school.I remember my two best friends having them for their birthdays. Show off's

Mine was totally black. I thought it was so cool, Black face,hands,strap and no numbers.
like this but with no colours at all on face



I even paid the extra £3 and bought one of the rubber bands that went across the face to protect it. (black of course)

Now I have to say they look much better, more classy and worth the money. Where as the one's we had looked more like those plastic lego watches

But our Darren £3 for an elastic band, I ask you

Waste of time of course. the "glass" on the front of a swatch is plastic and not even toughened. Within a week, I'd scuffed across a wall on way home from pub and mashed the front. It also let water in if you unscrewed the battery cover on back and then steamed up in the warm. Utter junk, and as for the sweaty plastic strap..

and most obviously, impossible to read at night

I got more mileage from an old Rolex copy I had. Much better made.
My current watch (not that I wear one much) is even more retro..

i have a few of them, my first was a fluffy one that soon looked very dirty, and the other had changable faces, the round bit just popped out and u put another face in it, quite cool really,

Yeah I remember the Pop Swatch, never had one of those either! Could you not also swap the straps too

There was also Pop Swatch rings
