  • Birds Eye Beef Burgers etc...

Is it just me or as a kid didn't Birds Eye, Ross and even Heinz (in a tin!) Beef Burgers taste really nice?

Used to love them with chips and peas!

Once a few years ago my Dad fried some off for me and the fry pan was FULL of watery liquid coming out of the burgers and they went a greyish brown colour For all their recent 'real meat' they taste awful now! I joked to Dad at the time that we should put the juice in a jar and send it to them as a complaint! We didn't though as we couldn't be bothered...but it was disappointing....

I only eat the sort you can get fresh from M & S or Sainsburys from their ready to grill or fry or as I do put in the oven ranges made from choice minced meats or ones with herbs, chillis or cheese now...

Birds Eye and Findus beefburgers were my favourites. I tried some Birds Eye ones recently, and predictably they've toned down the seasoning, no doubt in line with the government's recommendations regarding the nation's salt intake.

In my opinion, Birds Eye have really gone downhill in recent years. Their chicken pies have definitely lost a certain something (that hint of red pepper that made quite a difference to the flavour has now been taken out), and the shepherd's pie now has added vegetables (I preferred them with just a plain meat base).

Goblin and Westlers used to make excellent burgers in gravy in a tin too. The gravy was really tasty and went well with chips/peas. Bought a Westlers one recently from Farmfoods and ended up binning them as the taste was awful. It was like eating a meat flavoured Baby's rusk and there were no Onions in the Onion gravy!!
