Yes, they were branded as "Sundaes" if I remember correctly.

I also remember that earlier in the 80's, they used to sell their cakes in boxes of five, rather than six. I wonder why they changed that?

I worked on a building firm in the early 80's and we did a lot of work at Manor Bakeries in Eastleigh near Southampton, now closed and the land on which it stood there's now a Ford dealership I think.

I liked the Mr Kipling ads as a child. I was totally taken in by the friendly grandpa voice describing all of those lovely cakes. I suppose that was the idea, as it was mainly my grandparents that had cakes like that. French Fancies were a favourite in my house and at parties, especially the pink ones and I always wanted the bakewell slices when I saw them advertised.

we ate all these in our house kids and adults alike.
well it was more me that ate them as a kid in the eighties.

i still eat them now particularly the cherry bakewells absolutely divine.

seen mself eat a full box of these inside ten minutes.

for me still as nice as ever they where.
think i must go and buy some later today.
they still taste as good as they did in the eighties nineties.

we always had mr kipling cakes in our house when i was a child......i certainly know all those on the list above...........i don't buy any today as i don't feel they're particularly good value for money

I'm writing an article on Mr Kipling cakes, and I'd appreciate any of your memories of the brand.

A few facts: Mr Kipling doesn't exist. He's the creation of Rank Hovis McDougall in 1967. The 'exceedingly good' TV ads appeared from the early 1970s.

Currently part of Premier Foods (who took over RHM), the current lines are:

large cakes: bakewell tart, battenberg, manor housepies: apple & blackburrant, bramley apple
slices: angel, bakewell, chocolate, country, lemon, victoria
small cakes: mini battenbergs, victoria mini classics, viennese whirls, french fancies
tarts: cherry bakewells, jam tarts

I'm fascinated to know what you remember of these and the many other discontinued varieties.
