  • German mustard

It's still available from Aldi from October to January but nowhere else (significant) sells it. In the 1990s you could buy Sainsburys, Colmans, and one other brand I have forgotten the name of German mustard. Did you ever buy it and lament its near demise in Britain?

Do you really believe the other side without provocation would launch so many ICBM's, subs and ships knowing that we would have no option to launch as well? It would break our MAD Treaty (Mutually Assured Destruction) not to mention the end of the world as we know it.

        Re: German mustard

It has crossed my mind that German mustard created impressions of Germans spraying mustard gas above the trenches, or that German mustard is perceived as an ingredient of mustard gas, which inevitably resulted in its near demise in British shops.

I doubt that most British people have even tasted German mustard but I enjoy it as a condiment as it has the optimum balance of flavour and heat compared with the fiery Colmans English mustard and the rather bland and tasteless French mustard.

In Germany there are several varieties of mustard and Germans know exactly which variety to pair with a particular item of food. Using the 'wrong' mustard is seen by a German in a similar way that the English would see putting Branston pickle on spotted dick.

I'm sure that Colmans used to do a whole range of different nationality Mustards, each had the flag of the country of origin on the jar?
