    Who had a pen pal?

I had one, though not until I was about 14. We met at a pop concert and she was from a town that was only about 40 miles away, but even at that age it might as well been 4000 miles away!

We wrote to each other for a couple of years and loved to painstakingly choose pretty paper and coloured pens to construct our letters. Sometimes we typed them (it was the typewriter thread that reminded me lol). I remember the excitement of hearing a letter plop through the post and loving to catch up on her gossip about school, friends, boyfriends and music.

I was still keen to write but eventually her letters began to tale off and then stopped. I was quite sad at the time but I guess it's inevitable when people grow up and change. Happy memories though.

I used to have a couple of brothers as pen pals.Met them when they stayed at their nans house in the summer holidays.Their nan was one of my neighbours.

Used to write all the time, and they would visit every summer holidays. After their nan died obviously they didn't visit anymore, and as you say the letters eventually stopped. It's abit like school friends, you slowly loose contact over the years.

        I had penpals from all over.(Japan,China,U.S.A,wales,England,N.Z,Korea... )

Yeah, the letters normally come pretty quickly and regularly at first and then get fewer and further between as time goes on.I guess because the longer you write the less there is to tell.

True Stu yeah. Though I have an "Internet Pen Pal" if this makes any sort of sense! Tell you what though about Pen Pal's i've always wanted to post a letter in a bottle into a canal or something that leads to see and hope someone who pick's it up would reply! That'd be so ace indeed, so mythical and majestical etc.

                  Re: Pen Pals

I subscribed once to a penpal mag which were available in the 80s or 90s.
i had pals from all over. japan probably being the farthest.
as with everything the letters dwindled then stopped all together.
i found my wife through writing. we started writing after my sister passed me my wifes address. 17 years later we are still happily married.
