    Yep we use that here in the midlands too, sounds right, with your assumption about the irish, ironic as i'm watching the rugby and the irish are losing to fance

      This has been driving me mad for days now, there was a word or saying that we used that cancelled out something someone else had said or done, if someone had Trumped ,and you said this word or saying, it could not have been you,as long as you got on first it relieved you of all blame?? any one got a clue what the heck I'm on about. LOL

              I thought I had it for a minute but I was thinking of "jinx" you said this if you said something at exactly the same time.

                      Donkey's years" is the correct form when meaning "a long time", but "donkey's ears" has also been a jokey pronunciation of that for some time - certainly to the early 20th century, viz E. V. Lucas' Vermilion Box, 1916:
