maybe called doodlebug?

was chatting to my grandad the other day and he mentioned a craft thingy and he said it comprised of a square board with pins round the edge which you strung string across the board one way then acrosss the other at the end of stringing you had a mat he thinks it maybe called a doodlebug mat

anyone else any idea what its called ?

It just sounds like string art to me, I remember making a owl shaped picture with silver thread.

i know what you mean but he said it was just for making mats and ended up as a solid shape
