Anyone remember the "John McEnroe" trick you could do with 2 1990s £10 notes?

What you did was hold the reverse side so just the top half of Charles Dickens's head was visible, then you would place this on the lower part of the Queen's head on another note.

The resulting image would look a lot like John McEnroe.

Thanks, I remember my Dad showing me that, I think he got the trick off somebody at work.

Also a while later radio DJ mentioned it.

I remember the sixpence coin (2 & half pence in todays money if we still had the halfpenny coin)

Last time I used one must have been the late seventies after we went decimal in '71. I forget when the halfpenny was taken out of circulation

Do you really believe the other side without provocation would launch so many ICBM's, subs and ships knowing that we would have no option to launch as well? It would break our MAD Treaty (Mutually Assured Destruction) not to mention the end of the world as we know it.

I heard Sixpences were kept in circulation as many tickets on public transport (mostly in London) were priced 6d & ticket machines couldn't give change.

The halfpenny was withdrawn in 1984, the same year as the last Pound notes were printed.

Woolworths was the 6d store at one time.

I also liked the thrupenny bit

At one time they were 3d & 6d.

This was based on their American "Five & Dime" slogan, which might still used to mean any kind of discount shop there, sometimes shortened to Dime Store.

I have some commemoration coins from the Queen's Silver Jubilee and Charles and Diana's wedding. I thought that they were just for memorabilia and you couldn't spend them but more recently I found out that you can spend them and their face value is 25p. I am not going to spend them...

I have received an old 1986 £2 coin in my change before.
