Used to be ace going abroad and changing your money into a currency that gave you 1000000 to the pound. Felt like a millionaire.

I remember even knowing the rough exchange rates for a pound.

        10 Francs

        3 Marks

        200 Pasatas

        2000 Lira

300 Dracmas (this was about 500 by the time the Greeks signed up to the Euro)

2 Million Turkish Lira (they chopped 6 zeros off a few years ago)

Do you really believe the other side without provocation would launch so many ICBM's, subs and ships knowing that we would have no option to launch as well? It would break our MAD Treaty (Mutually Assured Destruction) not to mention the end of the world as we know it.

My Dad had a box of coins he had picked up over the years from holidays & business trips.

Portuguese Escudos, where the coins had no head side.

East German Ostmarks, which used aluminium for the lower value coins.

            Austrian Schillings.

            Soviet Kopeks & Roubles.

            Polish Zloty.

            Hungarian Florint.

            Yugoslavian Dinar.

Kids had so much fun collecting coins before the euro came in. On holiday finding a penny shove machine was like hitting the jackpot in a seaside town as you could add a handful of low value European coins to you collection almost overnight. And it was also so much fun trying to get that French franc you wanted amongst all those horrid English 1p pieces.
