Where I work has an hour for lunch, but are flexible about the times.

I thought that in most work places, lunch time can be flexible depending on whether someone had completed work early and is starving! I know that it was at the place where I did work experience in the 1990s.

Can anyone tell me when lunch hours stopped being a regular thing? Up until 2002 I worked in jobs where I was allowed an hour for lunch and two 10-15 minute breaks - one in the morning and one in the afternoon. After several years working in jobs that were very flexible I returned to the more standard 9-5 set up a couple of years ago and was quite shocked to find that a half hour lunch had become the norm and there were no breaks. I still can't get over it!
