The second of a five-part tribute based on a conversation between
John Lennon , Yoko Ono and Andy Peebles recorded in New York on 6 December last year - two days before JOHN LENNON 'S tragic death. This week covering the period November 1969-November 1971.
' I was talking to Yoko about the Cavern today, because there was two girls standing outside our apartment today, and they'd been standing off and on for the last five years, right through the so-called hiatus, you know, when I wasn't .. I was supposed to be buried alive, like Howard Hughes ! I'd talk to them, you know, and say, " Hi, I saw you running across the park ", and all that.' Evelyn Laye continues the story of her remarkable career.
Evelyn Laye has been a leading lady since she was 19. and to the general public. she, possibly more than anyone else. epitomises the glamour and the romance that goes with the musical theatre. Hers is one of the longest and most colourful careers in the British theatre and surely the only person in the world to whom audiences shouted
' boo! ' as a term of affection.

'Here we are in 1981, dole queues get longer, the pound gets weaker as industry grinds down. The only growth areas are the old chestnuts, the army and the police. We've got to have law and order in a democracy, sure, but whose law and order do we get? Could it be the age old "law and order 22 or "keep them in their places" and kick them down if they protest - The biggest crime is to be a free-thinking individual. Don't talk to me about 1984, it's already got its roots firmly planted and the seed is growing.'

This week at the University of Liverpool with special live band Stiff Little Fingers.
It wasn't long ago that this Belfast band were sticking together the picture bags for their own records, and before that had trouble finding a venue to perform. So they hired a hotel function room on the pretext of a 21st birthday party, persuading patrons in the car park to 'contribute' to the invitation cards The same enterprise prompted them to form their own label to release 'Suspect Device', a debut single showing their capability of producing an explosive sound.
