Nick Barraclough traces the story of bluegrass, from its inception through to the growing international status it holds today, by talking to performers and playing some of the most important music recorded along the way.
In the 1970s bluegrass music attained new levels of sophistication as the music headed out of the country and into the cities. Bands like Country Gazette toured in Europe, the Country Gentlemen set new standards of instrumental and vocal wizardry, and Duelling Banjos became the first bluegrass instrumental to make the charts in the UK.

Mark Lamarr offers an insight into the fragmenting world of musical taste by exposing fans of one type of music to extremes of another. In this documentary, a concert cellist is dragged off to a rave (and a raver is forced to attend classical concerts), while a heavy metal fan is made to listen to reggae. Their reactions expose the bonds, prejudices and sense of community surrounding today's musical sub-cultures.

Close-up on Crosby - the Voice of the Century
He was the most popular singer of all time. "White Christmas" sold over 30 million copies, and his total record sales are well over 350 million. In films, he was the top box-office star for several years in succession and in the 30s and 40s he dominated the airwaves. Yet he made an art out of seeming casual and lazy. It was one of the greatest acts in the history of show business, as George Perry reveals in tonight's look at the life and music of Bing Crosby. Producer Madeleine Cuming
