we used to have a man come on the street in a big green bedford van selling anything you can imagine called "cockle Bob"BEAT THAT!!!!
Also did anyone used to get the "rag and bone man " walking the streets with a kart? taking all your old clothes???
We've got a fully working red phone box just across the road from us (alas it doesn't take 2p calls ). It's just been repainted and re-glazed, too. Add to that, a leafly lane that ends in a church surrounded by big trees at the end of the road and we've got a fantastically clichéd English village view from our living room
This would make a lovely pic on the 'View from your Window' game Wil

And another one from yonks ago.........helium filled ballons where you noted your address and the furtherst returned one a prize. All the rage in holiday resorts in the 60/70's
I was lucky enough not to need them but do you remember the awful NHS glasses kids were given back in the 70's? The boys always had the black rimmed ones and the girls had either the blue or pink rimmed ones. No wonder there was such a stigma attached to wearing specs back then. I remember a friend of mine had to have some glasses and his parents forked out the cash for some gold wire framed ones which were much more flattering. I don't think he got taunted with all the 'four eyes' insults that the poor NHS wearers did. Every other spectacle wearing kid in my school though had to wear the freebie ones.
Ironically it would appear that they are deemed retro now cos this place has them for sale http://www.retrospecs.co.uk/catalogu...=1&s_id=2&pg=2

the pop man...sure it was Alpine pop...came in EVERY flavour under the sun
We used to get the Alpine pop man come round. Know what you mean about every flavour. Used to have the pineapple because we thought it exotic!
I'm sure at one time there used to be a van that used to come round that just sold beer.
