  • Dusty Springfield at the BBC

Has anybody else watched this tonight on BBC -26/10/24?

Though I never doubted it one bit - what an utterly brilliant singer Dusty was RIP

The early 90s stuff when the Pet Shop Boys helped bring her back into the limelight and the charts was amazing stuff with songs like like IN-Private, What Have I Done To Deserve This and Reputation was on a par with her 60s stuff no doubts

Dusty's In Private was also played in Grange Hill Series 13 - around the mid-way mark Episode 11 or 12 when Robbie took Aichaa Rashim to see QPR play against his better judgement (not because QPR was a bad Football Team at the point), far from it - being one of the top 4/5 London Teams in the old Division 1 and enjoying a near on 13 year spell ... far from what they are these days!! Robbie's judgment was knowing Derek Haines and his Rascist gang more than probably would be (as they was) at Loftus Road- which even made a Cameo in this Episode

Anyway back to Dusty and In Private - Robbie was satin this Cafe that reminds me of one I went in Pocklington about 6/8 months after the Repeats of this Episode and in all fairness it has to be the worst fake scenrey outside that the BBC has created in the last 35 years- more so given Technologial Advances of the late 80s when this would have been filmed. Even though it was'nt nice viewing, In Private is a special song for me from that era.
