What you did in the 70,s and 80s but you dont do now
Re: What you did in the 70,s and 80s but you dont do now
Apprentice Fitters and Electricians taking on the trainee miners at football - every couple of months in seventies.
Up the pit soon on a Fri afternoon and right out onto the pitch, faces black with dust, overalls rolled down to waist with the arms tied round you.
It was terrifying if you got possession and their defence was charging at you with steel toe-cap pit boots on!
How quickly you learned to boot it to a team mate - with no fancy dribbling unless you wanted to limp for a long time.
Training officers chortling and passing their 50p bets to each other.
Nowadays the HSE would stop it right away or some little wimp would try and sue ("They shouldn't have let me play it") if they got a bruise
listen to the Top 40 on Radio 1 , Sundays tea-time
listen to Radio Luxemburg secretly whilst in bed (early teens!)
Play with my Airfix soldiers (though I now COLLECT them)
Play many board games (although we have family staying with us at the mo so I've been playing Monopoly most of today - like I used to as a kid - with their kids cos I watched them & they had NO IDEA about the rules, and I ended up roped in) Been many years, but forgot how good a game it can be
Play marbles
Watch any decent telly ! (only 3 channels of course back then, but quality over quantity!)
couple more...
Have me tea made for me all the time..mums eh!
Mum washing my hair over the sink.."keep your head down"
Being taken to the (gents) barbers.."what's he having?" "Short back & sides"...no choice back then! (only bit I liked was that scent they sprayed on your hair at the end, in the round squeezy ball thing)
Mum checking my hair for nits.
Calling ALL family friends "Mr" or "Mrs" .....would never dream of using their first names!
Re: What you did in the 70,s and 80s but you dont do now
Play out from dawn till dusk.
Eat a bucket load of sandwiches at the beach then run round like a loony and not throw up.
Not be able to sleep on Christmas Eve.
Believe in the tooth fairy..... now I am the tooth fairy.
Roll down grass hills laughing all the way.
Have a bath in Nan's kitchen sink or her old tin bath which she would warm up on the range.
Help Nan with her mangle when she washed her laundry in the bath.
Took the white stone to Nan's front step.
Get a huge bag of mix up from the post office for only 10p.
Believe that tap water was really corporation pop.
I cant go any further some memories are sad and i now have tears.
Re: What you did in the 70,s and 80s but you dont do now

Go climbing trees
Set fire to stuff (not proud of it)
Play computers games on a vic-20 (3.5k) and think they were great
Ride a bicycle
Vandalism (not proud of it)
Go sledging
Do homework on the Fine Fare roof in the rain, lol
Steal records form the library (not proud of it)
Tell lies (not proud of it)
Drink lager (not proud of it, LOL)
Have an infatuation with Madonna
Play mabs (marbles)
Play cricket
etc...
Re: What you did in the 70,s and 80s but you dont do now
Carry pies in a bag in my jacket pocket
Who else recalls that? - sandwich shops were totally unheard of , and even the concept of them seemed ridiculous (What ? you mean like somebody makes up the sandwich so I pay extra for that? Pah! - no chance!) so every time you went anywhere the great seventies staple of 'a pie in a paper bag' was crammed into your pocket
