Another great gone. Brilliant with Les Dawson. Great character on the Street, long before it turned into the claptrap that it is now. R.I.P.

      "Alec Gilroy" R.I.P.

Yes, a better show in the past. Sometimes the best thing in an episode now is the theme music, and the ghost of Minnie Caldwell's cat Bobby. I go through not watching it for long stretches and then trying again just because it's there, but they've done so many ratings-grabber stories they've ruined some of the characters for me.

Very sad to hear about Roy's passing. He was a fixture for so many years on our TV screens in a host of shows. A true professional in whatever he did, whether comic or dramatic. I first remember seeing him in Pardon my Genie in the early 70s, which I loved as a kid. RIP Roy.

When he played Alec Gilroy in Coronation Street he always seemed to be portrayed as being the Prince Philip to Bet's Queen Elizabeth II, even though he was the landlord of the Rovers' Return.

          Gil-roy of the Rovers, methinks.
