This great Welsh actor passed away a few days ago at the age of 77- his many TV appearances included the German submarine commander in the classic Dad's Army sketch ("Don't tell him your name, Pike!") and as mad scientist Solon in the Dr. Who episode 'The Brain of Morbius', but perhaps most impressively of all in the Channel 5 detective series 'A Mind To Kill'. This was a kind of Welsh equivalent of Taggart set in and around Cardiff and Taff Vale, in which he played Detective Chief Inspector Noel Baines. A brilliant talent, comparable to his compatriot Stanley Baker- a great loss to performing arts.
I liked him as the slave trader in the Goodies episode "South Africa" or "Sarth Effriker". In his opening scene he is seen singing and playing the song "White Christmas" on the piano where all the keys are white. ;-)
