Mike nesmith has died aged 78, for anybody unfamiliar he was with the Monkees and played guitar, he also enjoyed limited success as a solo artist his biggest hit being Rio......RIP Mike

He always stood out because of his wooly hat.
I can still remember giggling at that brief scene during the Monkees intro when the boys ran down the beach and ran off again as the little waves crashed in.
I'm pretty sure he was wearing his hat even then.

I believe the Monkees were the first "manufactured" band, brought together originally for the TV show, but of course they went on to have a lot of hit records
