  • RIP Janet Andrewartha Aka Lynn Scully and Prisoner Cell Block H fame

Another great Soap legend - Janet ha sadly passed on aged 72.As well as playing Lynn on and off for the best part of 19 Years on Neighbours Janet also played Reb Keane in the legendary show that was Prisoner Cell Block H

Lynn in Neighbours was just when the Golden period (for me) of Neigbours ... the 90s in general was stuttering to a end. The Scully's was a good replacement for the Martn-Robinson-Wilkinsons in Helen and Jim's old House - but obviously they would never match one of the original Familes with Joe not really fitting in but Lynn and the Girls being quite good.

I must admit after I stopped watching it without fail daily, it was a shock (but not really) to discover Lynn married Paul Robinson - even if he did use her as he did it was a major suprise, but anything on Joe who was just a total- down-right thug in my book was an improvement - even if Paul did play on her heart-strings - as much as Paul is a baddy, he is not quite as mean as he his made out to be I think.

    RIP Janet Andrewartha

It's amazing comparing her two stints as Reb Kean in Prisoner: Block H - it's almost as if she played two different characters called Reb Kean with the latter apperance as more being agreeable than the first which is what makes a versitile actress. She must have met Ruth Ballenger while at Blackmoor and also while she had Electroconvulsive Therapy a total of 27 times, even taking Joan Ferguson aback; the ECT was presumably courtesy of Blackmoor's very own Cynthia Leach (who cannot be identified for legal reasons methinks).

The fact that only Lou Kelly and Alice "Lurch" Jenkins remained from when Kean was transferred to Blackmoor in the 70-odd episodes that she had been away, and the changes during the penaltimate year of production in which the new Reb tries to make sense of - Judy Bryant being released; the Ballenger siege, and the Barnhurst Five arriving, not to mention Nora Flynn replacing Myra Desmond as Top Dog. And Reb and Dr Weissman, the visiting Psychologist, shared their final scenes in the series together in the cafe, with a bicycle seen outside the cafe, leading to the start of a new, unrelated storyline. "It's a hell of a world out there", she said in the cafe which was her last lines in the series.

Funny that 72 was Lizzie Birdsworth's age during her first year in the series - one could never imagine Reb Kean at that age!
