May not have been the nicest of people, but certainly entertaining to watch him play

I suppose my best memory of him and many other players was from BBC2's Pot Black, which I would always watch with my Dad. Alex was one of the true greats of the game.

sad news indeed.
one if not the most naturally talented player ever.

been watching snooker near 30 yrs now.
one of the games great champions.
up there with hendry,davis,reardon etc.

world champ in 72,and 82.

rip alex.

my wee country has lost another sporting great.

I will always remember the way he hugged his wife and small daughter in tears after he won the 1982 World Championship.
A flawed genius of the game, always exciting to watch.

When snooker was first televised, he was the draw. The establishment didnt want him, but he gave them the platform they stand on. He made modern snooker. They can tut and shake their heads at him and others like him, but they wouldn't have a job if it wasnt for him.
