    Hi Buzz,
Bet you can get it in tins, or I think you can by it dried and cook it (probably can microwave it!!). Bet it won't taste quite the same as the school days though!!

    Re: School dinners

    Hi all,
Well I grew up during the 1960- 70's, loads and loads of brilliant memories, but certainly not of school dinners!! I have such a loathing and am almost phobic about milk puddings of any sort I cannot even touch a dish that has had some on!!

One of the only decent thing I can remember is the Lemon Meringue Pie always had a crispy Meringue, cannot seem to find it like that anywhere (unless it is home made). As for the prunes, I didn't dislike them, but the highlight was doing the "Tinker, Taylor Soldier Sailor" rhyme with the left over stones!!

(we HAD to eat anything given to us and a typical attitude in general during the 60's and how many others during that era remember still sitting at the dinner table 2 hours after anyone had finished, still struggling to eat their cold congealed peas, cabbage etc..

(Don't tell my mum, but it was my 2lb worth of peas she found behind the fridge when we moved - always managed to throw a few behind the fridge when she left the room for a few minutes!!).

Daz you got to have the fresh stuff with a huge dollop of strawberry jam and make double the amount coz you got to invite me too. Am I the only person in the world who loves semolina ...... aka smelly lena?

    Best ever school dinners were

Spam fritters, mash and tinned tomatoes

With Chocolate shortcake and pink raspberry custard for afters.

Rather eat that than all the cr*p that these celebrity chefs cook.

In the days before everything had to have a bouqet garni or garlic in it or creme fresh and covered in olive oil that makes it look like it is something that you scrape off the top of your fish tank.

I remember there used to be fights over who got the skin off the top of the custard jug...... I can't stomach the thought of it these days!

My junior school used to make their own 'crisps' they swam in oil and were vile, and they always added sultanas to the coleslaw!!!

It wasn't until I left school I realised (most) fish was supposed to be white not grey like it was at school!!!
