I suppose it depends to some extent on whether you went to a church school or a state one. Although back in the seventies, most state schools were quite Christian centred - more so than these days.
I went to a state school, and we would always have a prayer in assembly and occasionally a 'grace' before lunch: "For what we are about to receive..."
But the prayer I recall most clearly, (and I'm talking Primary school here), was at the end of the day, just before the bell for the end of school:
Hands together, softly so,
Little eyes shut tight,
Father, just before we go,
Hear our prayer tonight,
Amen.
There was a little tune to it that I can still recall.
Anyone else have memories of school prayers?
