The is a DVD with some of the best of Saturday afternoon wrestling witch I have. Classic stuff with Kent Walton's dead pan commentary.

Saturdy afternoons have never been quite the same since World Of sport and the wrestling at four o'clock ended.

Re: Big Daddy, Giant Haystacks, Kendo Nagasaki?

I remember my two older brother's being excited because giant haystacks and big daddywere doing a tag match near where we live, my mum had said they could take me and my younger brother, we couldn't believe our luck, then dad came home and said no way, as we were far to young:cry:
Happy memories were watching it at my nan's flat, she use to watch it with the sound right down...why?..we could hear the little old lady upstairs, yelling "go on kill him" or "grab him by the hair", she did a far better running commentary.

Plus the fact World Of Sport had other sports that don't normally get TV showing nowdays like Stockcar Racing (ahem).

Re: Big Daddy, Giant Haystacks, Kendo Nagasaki?

Ive been reliving those great saturday afternoons on Sky, both ESPN Classic and The Wrestling Channel regularly show the wrestling.
I remember going to see Big Daddy wrestle when i was on holiday in Hastings in about 1981 I think, I was so excited marching behind him on his way to the ring, happy days indeed.

Who unbelieveably I just saw wrestling on WWE this morning. He must be nearly 50. Certainly a good few years older than me but holding his own against men half his age. Not kidding about that "Fit" part though he's a lot heavier than he used to be.

Oh my goodness, for three or four years of my life I used to spend Saturday evenings at the Victoria Hall in Hanley watching all these well known wrestling heros doing their thing ! Used to stand right upstairs in the gods looking down on all the action. Yes, there was the archetypal old lady in the front row prodding and poking the wrestlers with her umbrella too ! Ahhhhh those were the days

I'm ashamed to say, I only know the current age of wrestling, which is more commercialised and somewhat far removed from real sports.
