First one I bought was Soldier Blue. Cost me £30 from Derann in Dudley. First blank tape was an L750 beta tape and it cost me £15. This would have been in the second half of 1980--very expensive for the time and not exactly cheap at today's prices.

i think christine was my first ever video. still got it somewhere. my first dvds were pulp fiction and das boot.

To add to my original post my first Blu-Ray was ET, which I never bought on DVD because my sister had a copy I could borrow.

my first blu rays were battlestar galactica blood and chrome, pulp fiction and the back to the future movies.
