It's a bit like a Geroge Foreman grill.

I remember my friend had around the box for a contact grill which had come from his granparents.

This was similar but with flat plates.

its just a griddle

It contained a pair of infra red heating elements that glowed when powered up. The underside of the plates are black which absorbs the infra red and heats up.

I repaired one belonging to a kid at my school.
