Last Sunday I was at Brands Hatch watching the touring cars, and the Honda stand featured the latest Civic, and an immaculate yellow mid-70s Civic (the original). It was certainly getting a lot of attention.

Which reminds me of the old Datsuns - the 120Y and 100A - ubiquitous in the '70s and early '80s, but almost extinct now.

One of my favourites is the Austin Allegro, simply because a lot of **** has been said and written about them in recent years whereas they are actually very good cars. They're reliable, comfortable and easy to maintain and work on yourself.

I like ANYTHING old though, simply because modern cars are all so boring and all look the same- anything interesting, or that has a bit of history behind it, will do me!!

I am not really a car guy, but I used to love all the old Fords of the 70s/80s which the family drove as we ran Car Garage. I really liked the old Escorts from the 70 and the one with the spoilers on (we had 1 very similar to one that is seen zooming by in Clokwise in a scene) - Orange even too! All the Fords in them day's were amazing!

If I had a licence (took my test loads of times, kept failing but could drive pretty well) I'd get either a MKIII Cortina GXL like Gene Hunt's in Life on Mars or a MKIV or MK V Estate in midnight blue, my Dad had one and they are lovely, spacious, well designed cars compared to the identikit rubbish on the roads now. Maybe one day...

I'd go for the Series 1 Rover SD1 3500 V8 I've always promised myself. Monza Red with a Nutmeg interior!
That and an early MK2 Ford Granada (pre facelift) with a manual box, don't like automatics. I always joked on with a friend that I'd end up getting one and fitting the MK1 interior for "an authentic 70's feel, and because MK1's are too expensive!"

Did you know that one side of the Rover SD1 is actually longer than the other side? Kid you not. Odd that. Blame British Leyland....lol. I really like the MK 1 Granada, like the one in The Sweeney.

Someday, when I have spare cash, I'd like to buy and run a few old cars, a 1970's Rolls Royce Silver Shadow would be nice....it was after I saw it on Top Gear's India special I liked it, a MK IV/V Cortina estate, a Mini, one of the ones made around the 1990's/2000's before BMW made the chunky odd ones.

I heard that about the SD1! It's apparently 3mm or so I've heard! Still want one though! I have a list of cars I'd like as long as my arm! Vauxhall Victor FD, MK3 Cortina, MK5 Cortina, Austin 1800 Landcrab, Wedge-tastic Princess, Morris Marina, Wolseley 18/86, Leyland P76, Wartburg Knight, ZAZ 968, Ford Zephyr 4, BMW E12, Early Mazda 626, Nissan Bluebird, Volvo 480ES (In black, my mam had one and I loved it!).

I have this strange condition, if someone absolutely slates a car and explains to me how downright terrible it is and that to want one is a sin against nature, I can't help but feel like I should get one, rescue it from the jibes almost. It's why half the stuff's on this list anyhow! All the BL stuff is more or less down to TopGear.

SF1378 - I much prefer the old mini over the new one. The new one's not as in-keeping with Issigonis's idea of "Maximum interior space with minimum exterior dimensions." in my opinion anyway.

Now that's what I call a wedge! Not usually a fan of hatchbacks unless wheres something special about them, but that's exactly what I like! Looks a bit like the Renault 20, Moskovich 2141 Aleko and the B1 and B2 VW Passat. I like wedgy and angular cars

Well we still drive one! He is 29 years old and if you search the Transport thread you will find a picture of him.

He is a bit wedgeform! I liked the Talbot Samba too.

I must say, it's an absolute joy to hear survivor stories like that! The way they're meant to be, loved and enjoyed! I recently found a C reg Capri for a friend and now he's agreed to help me find a MK2 Granny! Nice to hear that there's at least 1 well loved example on the road still!

According to the Simca Club UK (that's the Club for Simca, Chrysler,Talbot) There are only 22 Alpines alive in the UK, reckon they all suffered chronic TINROT!

Ahh yes, the dreaded tin pest... If you can weld, its not as much of a problem, but if you're like me, where your arches are held together with a load of filler and a dolop of wishfull thinking... I'd love to get a nice classic for my next car, but weirdly, whenever I check online auction sites for any type of classic I like, theres a 100 or so mile ring of emptyness around me! The last time I saw anything classic and local was a few months back when I saw a Moskovich 408 for sale in Sunderland... Everything is either new or restored to concourse standard! Madness I say!
