Hello, even though I'm in Canada I grew up with lots of English comics, tv and music (of course). We also had/have some 'ever so British' shops with imported food items and toys. I never did try the marmite though, did I miss much? I hope you won't mind me invading; my mother's side came from Leeds area (my grandfather always had bread and butter on table) and so I have a special connection with Sooty and liked Emmerdale over Corrie!
Awhile ago I even got a DVD player for the PAL/Region 2 DVDs and have been enjoying a lot of past shows, and some new as well. I really think U.S. television is mostly awful. I grew up in the '70s, and into my teens in the early '80s. I caught the very tail end of the 2-Tone ska thing with the Dance Craze various artists live LP and felt that was 'my' music (The Police had softened me up for it) though it was probably pretty much over by then (I didn't know). I remember I was excited to see The Beat on the U.S. American bandstand show promoting what would be their last album, followed by Madness when they did Our House (and ours was in the middle of the street, how perfect).
