On TCM the longer version of "The Exorcist", still a very powerful movie, and as disturbing today as it was back in the '70s.

It is disturbing indeed i wonder is the longer version the warner bros vhs version i doubt it.

I might have to try to see it.

Extra scenes that were filmed but cut out of the original release,personally i think the original version was tighter and better,the only exception being the infamous "spider walk" sequence which is in this longer version, the problem including this scene was the timing of it, reagan's mother was reacting to hearing news of Dennings death when this occurs.
The alternative ending doesn't do much either, only fleshing out and reassuring the viewer that alls well and evil destroyed.
Opening shots of Georgetown before the north Iraq sequence doesn't do much either,extra scenes of medical tests aren't really needed, slightly different takes are used on father Karris's first meeting with Reagan and a different line of script with the "perfect night for an exorcism" segment.
The original version was and still is the best.
