Good to hear your opinions on this. Maybe I shouldn't have posted this under movies....

I know there is a possibility of "Euro Time" being introduced by the EU so all members stay on the same time

    Should just stick GMT

Batty was right, daylight saving was introduced to help farmers during the war and it has never been taken away ........ Bit like VAT but that is a whole different moan

    Re: Putting the clocks back

I was led to believe at school it was to give extra daylight time to farmers during the first war. Food production being extremely important as we were virtually cut off so the government brought it in to give the farmers more day light hours. Scratches head here.
However Dad always said it was due to the last war, with people not being able to use light due to blackouts so the extra daylight became important. I feel that daylight saving hours would of helped a great deal during both wars no matter when it was brought in.
It does seem like an outdated hangover but I expect that someone will complain if it was abolished, and it will be all down to how much money will be lost in industry if we keep it or eventually drop it.
It makes sense to me to split it half hour but not that long back the government was suggesting a two hour clock change not just half hour if they done away with daylight saving time. How they worked that out I don't know and I doubt they could come up with an answer for their own conclusion either.

if i remember right was it not to help them at sea.

it seems a bit dated now.

why not just make a half hour difference then leave it that way.

Should do away with it, it's dark enough by natures way without adding to it.
