Those red buckets used to contain sand. I have not seen any in the factory's I have worked at over the last 10 - 15 years thinking about it. They used to be a very common sight.

I think my secondary school still had these near the science labs, for putting out chemical fires.

Occasionally I see those manual fire alarms around, which are like a rotating metal bowl with a crank handle fitted to the wall.

I remember seeing these all over the London stations when I went there on day trips in the 1980s-90s.

Old slot machines

No more is the satisfying shower of coins if you hit the jackpot. Your winnings are now printed out on a slip of paper to be redeemed at the cashier's. I'm not a gambler so the very first time I went to a Las Vegas casino was a big shock to me. My image of a casino was from movies and TV shows with the mechanical slot machines and gaming tables crowded with gamblers. Now it's basically a video arcade for adults because everything is video and electronic with a very small handful of blackjack tables. Most of the traditional casino games, including craps and roulette are now video machines.

Keep thinking about those steel ashtrays that used to be in all the shoe shops and chocolate and cigarette machines we used to see everywhere. All long gone now.

Now i think about it im sure we had one when i was kid in the seventies.
It looks so familiar.

They go for big money now

I can remember our old radiogram. It's the smell of the warm valves in it that takes me back. It must of been some age when I was a nipper back in the early 70's.The record compartments were lined with red velvet or some other material.
