Re: Women's Football
Was women's football that strong in the 1970s, I wonder?

Re: Women's Football
I think they started even before the First World War, were banned in the 1920s, & didn't get going again until the 1970s.Originally posted by Mulletino View Post
I believe the women's teams also started when the men were away at war and those not serving still wanted to watch sports, so the women got involved.

Re: Women's Football
I was reading an interesting article about the fact the female players want equal pay to their male counterparts. With the reason they aren't being that their crowds just don't bring in the kind of money that the men's do. But when the percentage of wages to income was compared, the female teams were actually paid more than the men!
TBH I think most of these sports people are way overpaid anyway.

Ahh .. I see why you’re being a bit tetchy ... I should apologise for my comment previously... “ are you feeling ok ?”
I see now that it was misguided and a tad thoughtless - that was never my intention.. I was trying to add a bit of humour - and failed .

I’ve been watching footie since about 1965 and I’ve never heard of any women’s football playing to crowded stadiums..

Women’s footie looks ok .. it was kinda funny to see all the bleached blonde pony tails bouncing endlessly.. and I spent sometime seeing how many had injected lips in the USA squadOriginally posted by Nuggy14 View PostI don't like any kind of football but i do think it's a sport for guys, women playing football just doesn't look right. Are you feeling ok ??Originally posted by Flash Gordon View PostWomen's football used to be massive with packed stadiums. I saw a great documentary about the history of women's football in this country and it's a revelation most of us don't know much about. Why it was killed off is muddy and uncertain, obviously the wars played a part, and some say political as the teams were often involved in workers rights movements, but ultimately you have to say it was sexism. It's great to see that this great tradition is coming back, and that's all down to passion of the players.
