Clinton wasn't too bad - he felt like a "moderniser" in the White House compared to previous presidents. It's just a pity that he couldn't keep his hands to himself when it came to the Lewinsky / P Jones / G Flowers / Tripp incidents.

Re: American Election 2020
Trump's apparent popularity is always surprising me. I think it's an either you get it and like him or you don't at all affair. I didn't understand Bill Clinton's popularity any better though.
I can imagine with all the strikes and power outages that had been going on why people would vote in Thatcher when they did. Like anything too much of one size never fits all, and by the end she had done a lot of damage to the ITV region system for just one thing.
Reagan was also a mixed bag. There were good points (and he was experienced), and some not so good like more than tripling the U.S. national debt in his two terms. He also wrote against military assault weapons being in U.S. neighbourhoods and urged Republicans to vote for restrictions. Many of the neo-conservatives with his photo prominently framed on their wall often enough say things opposite to things he said. One thing I came to like was his calling the USSR an evil empire, but at the time many criticized him for that term. I do think communism lends itself very easily to evil (while promising much). Needless to say some socialism (which the U.S. does have some of) is part of a balanced country, and I do hate when people try to equate the two with a zero tolerance for anything but a let-the-market-determine-all-things with no regulation fantasy.

Re: American Election 2020
I think he's going to do some damage on the way out... lots of lawsuits based on little to nothing, and firings of people he's 'not happy with'.
He got the best treatments in the world, not available to anybody else, so I believe he had coivd.
Biden made a very tactful victory speech, much like Boris Johnson did. Even though I'm skeptical about Boris in some ways I can see that he has qualifications and integrity. I hope most people will give Joe Biden some respect. Trump was not at all qualified and not deserving of his position. He refused to learn or even read very much. He basically couldn't do the job even with all the advisers and career people in place (and he has driven many career people to leave that he didn't actually replace with some 'friend' or relative).
Oh well, you'd think people would get serious and behind whoever will start actually doing things related to covid transmission... there had been a plan for the U.S. postal system to distribute millions of masks early on but guess who ordered the project abandoned? Then later his unqualified 'friend' he put in charge of it had sorting machines turned off and taken away even to slow down the delivery of voting ballots. It's a long way back but at least most of the major countries are acknowledging Biden's win even if Trump and Putin aren't.Last edited by beccabear67; 10-11-2020, 02:55.

Re: American Election 2020
I just don't understand why Trump is trying to throwing his toys out of the pram and trying to obtain legal action simply because he has lost the election and won't accept it, blaming the number of votes not counted or something - I saw some of the coronavirus press briefings he has had in the White House garden earlier on this year when I was tuned into CNN, and in a nutshell, the man is an idiot when it comes to questions directed to him. At least, even if COVID-19 is here to stay at the moment, Trump will not be, thank goodness.

Re: American Election 2020
I am just relieved that Biden has won - I couldn't stomach another four years of Trump in the White House because he was failed the quality test for any presidency - he should have not won a first term. I think that Biden will provide a light at the end of the tunnel especially during this dark coronavirus era we are in at the moment.
Roll on January 20th next near.
